I bought an Innotek Free Spirit No Bark Collar because my otherwise wonderful dog is driving us crazy. Now I am a little afraid to use it on my beloved 18 mo. old Bichon. He is VERY annoying with the barking – you can’t watch tv or talk or even think. My other dog, a female Bichon Frise barks once or twice and then she’s done, but he doesn’t stop. Any input will be so appreciated.

watch the instruction video, and try it out – he will get probably 1-2 rude shocks at it biting him, but will soon learn that barking causes him discomfort and eventually cut his barking down considerably. Also you reinfoce the collar with praise when he stops barking and a sharp no when he doesnt.
Umm the other way is to teach him th “speak on command” and then the no speak command can be “sssshhh no speak” and put your finger over your mouth. If he is half smart he will work that one out too.
I agree with the first answer, try out the bark collar, then teach speak on command.
I do not think giving shocks to a dog is any more appropriate than giving them to humans. The problem is he needs to be obedience trained and that takes time and effort by the owner. Return the collar and sign up for a good obedience class. Then get a book on clicker training and teach your dog what you wish and do not wish him to do. You will both be happier and you will both learn new skills. What’s better than that?
